BOC marks World Thrift Day, promotes regular savings habit

The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has marked World Thrift Day 2026, observed on October 31, by renewing its call for Sri Lankans to develop a regular savings habit to ensure long-term financial security.

The State-owned bank, which celebrates its 87th anniversary this year, emphasised that saving, even in small amounts, plays a vital role in strengthening household finances and supporting the country’s economic stability.

Senior Deputy General Manager and Head of Development and Branch Banking, Badra Kalyanapriya Gurusinghe, said financial security could be achieved through regular savings, regardless of income levels.

He urged the public to plan ahead for major financial commitments, including children’s education, housing and retirement, while reaffirming the bank’s commitment to providing reliable banking services and savings solutions.

BOC offers a range of savings products catering to different age groups, from children to senior citizens. Its children’s savings accounts, including Ran Kekulu Smart and 14+, aim to encourage early savings habits, while offering incentives such as gifts and scholarships for academic achievements.

Other products, including BOC 18+, Flexi Investor and Smart Investor, cater to the financial needs of young adults and other customers.

The bank is also expanding its digital banking services through the BOC Flex App and online banking facilities. Its network of over 2,500 touch points covers all 331 Divisional Secretariat divisions, extending banking access to urban and rural communities.

BOC called on Sri Lankans to make saving a regular part of their lives and take practical steps towards a financially secure future.
