Historic milestone in Sri Lanka’s professional HR education

CIPM launches QS-Accredited CQHRM

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka, marked a defining milestone in its distinguished history with the official launch of the revised Chartered Qualification in Human Resource Management (CQHRM), now internationally accredited by Qualifications Scotland (QS) at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Level 11.

The national-level ceremony was held on  February 18, 2026, in Colombo, under the patronage of Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education. In her address, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasised the strategic importance of professional education in Sri Lanka’s national development agenda. As the country advances economic recovery and governance reform, she noted that strengthening professional competencies across sectors is vital.

The Prime Minister highlighted the Government’s expectation that professional education should be expanded further to ensure equitable access, industry relevance, and global competitiveness. She acknowledged the critical role of professional bodies such as CIPM in bridging the gap between academic learning and labour-market demands. Her presence signified a strong national endorsement of internationally accredited professional qualifications.

The ceremony was further honoured by the presence of Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development. International representation by Ms. Margaret Curran, International Regional Manager (South Asia) of Qualifications Scotland, and Mark Hill, International Regional Manager (Americas), symbolised the strengthening partnership between CIPM and Qualifications Scotland.

The CQHRM is CIPM’s flagship qualification and has evolved through a rigorous revision process aligned with international best practices. The newly launched third edition integrates competencies essential for modern HR leadership.
